Week 73: Revelation in a Companionshipš¤©
Odds and Ends
●One of our members used to be an FBI agent and wow I felt like a ninja just being in his presence
●I've been trying to crank out MyPlan, the program that prepares missionaries to go home. But I'm just now starting so Im two weeks behind...and I got my flight plans...this is too surreal...
●KayeLee Phillips is my FAVORITE. When her mom she told her that the sisters were coming over, she said "Sister Bruce?" And Sister Phillips told her no. "Sister Palmer?" And she said "yep, Sister Palmer!" She's still learning Sister Gibbens. Also sourdough pancakes are elite.
●Fabio said I'm Emily's fav missionary and wow that made me smile!
●Sister Leishman served in THIS MISSION and that's how she met her hubby and HOLY cutest love story ever.
●We had lunch with Sister Bonte and we shared Christian music while eating off a charcuterie board.
●Knocked no one home but a muddy cute floofer. He was cute until he got mud on the word of God! And on my skirt... but my skirt could take it, not the Book of Mormon!
●Sunflowers are popping up everywhere!
●We had dinner with the Curetons: steak, potatoes, salad, soup, cheesecake, veggies... I thought I was going to literally explode!
●During sacrament meeting the Nebeker kids Charles, Lydia, and Emi all came and sat by us. CUTEST THING EVER! Except Charles doesn't know how to whisper and I didn't know how to kindly shush him. And Lydia and Emi put stickers all over my arms! And THEN the Colleu boys Dayton and Evan came and sat on our row in the next ward! Dayton was peeking over at me when i was reading the Book of Mormon during the sacrament. Then I wrote their names all fancy on sticky notes for them! I was doodling in calligraphy what the speakers were saying, and Dayton leaned over and said "What language is that?" Hahaha!
●Bro Houston brought gluten free cookies to church for us!
Miracles
★We prayed for direction and the Spirit said go to Mary's! Mary was asleep, but Melissa let us in and we gave her another pamphlet and got her number! She said she's headed off to work soon, otherwise we would've sat down and had a lesson! Spirit leads!
★We had a little scary interaction. We pulled up to this hodgepodge yard with things everywhere. Dogs barked and the floofers ran up to our car goin' crazy. The man who was mowing more weeds than actually grass said we were fine and the dogs would leave us alone. Sister Gibbens hates dogs and she clung to the car. But I braved forward and a dog got close and I thought my calf was a goner. But I was okay! Then a not very dressed lady came running outside because she heard the dogs barking and thought someone was in trouble. She went in to put a dress on and came back out. Found out she is the niece of the lady we were looking for, came out and was like "her immune system is awful stay away. You can't come anywhere near her." And started swearing a bit. But then the spirit softened her heart. Like totally turned her attitude into kindness! And she let us talk to Debra, pulled up chairs, and she gave us popsicles! We prayed with them. But I've never seen the Spirit work that fast!
★Another miracle this week is our friend Quaticka! She was so prepared! She sent in a media referral and we hadn't been able to get in contact. A week ago we had a bing stop by to try and get in contact and SHE WAS HOME! At our return appointment this week, we taught her how to pray and we promised her that God does hear her and she started tearing up! So tender! We even had a member make a video for the lesson to encourage her to come to church. We are excited for her to come for the first time next week! And her cutie son gave us otter pops!
★Lumen and Talon passed their baptism interview! It was fun to hear their responses from the other room "the word of wisdom is no alcohol, no coffee, no tattoos..." haha we love em!
★Donna is on 1 Nephi 10. She's progressing bit by but, but she said she needed space. She's not gone yet! Working hard with her to increase her faith!
★On exchanges with Sister Alexander, we got back in touch with Reggie! He was straight up! He told us his main concerns: he thinks its odd that theres only one way to be saved in the true church, and if our church was a true church everyone would know about it! We KNEW he needed to be reminded of the restoration, its just been so long since he's been taught it! He's got great potential. We sat in his garage and he had a gun just resting on the chair he sat on so he moved it so we could sit. But then he put it on the ground and it was lowkey pointed at Sister Alexander. So I was praying there was some kind of safety on that gun hehe!
●We talked to Joseph Lee Justice (I just have to say his full name). He showed us his 2 ferrets and let us hold them and said we could come back and play with Empress and Bastian anytime! He said he has very different beliefs and isn't super interested. He said his roomy Frank is kinda interested. He even called Frank and said we wanted to talk with him sometime! Got his number, and we are excited to come back!
★At a member meal with the Houstons, I felt inspired to ask the question: when have you felt closest to the Savior? I've never had a more spiritual conversation. Holyyy! Anywho... Ponder that question yourself!
★We got to teach the sweet Simkins twins a little lesson about baptism with the Kit Kats! It was so cute. Arianna and Daniel reminded me of Blake and I and it was a tender moment.
★Krissy, who I taught in Surfside, is on date to be baptized! I was so excited to see that!
★I saw Mary Bussey, who I taught in my old area, at WALMART! AHHH WHAT ARE THE ODDS?! GOD IS SO GOOD!
Spiritual Thought
This week I learned a very important lesson. Just because you aren't receiving revelation, doesn't mean your companion is not. Its funny because I had mentioned to this to Sister Gibbens earlier in the week, and then the Spirit really put me to the test and gave me the opportunity to learn this even more for myself. We got a referral, and when we were trying to find the house, this lady tried helping us. It was a little unusual but I didn't think much of it. And as we were walking up to the house, Sister Gibbens said the Spirit practically yelled at her saying we shouldn't go to this house. I planted my feet and turned around. I didn't feel unsafe, but I trusted that she received a prompting. A part of me felt as though I was turning away from an elect person ready for the gospel. But I trusted her, even though it wasn't easy. For a while I was bothered. I thought, "Well, if it was that urgent that we should leave, why didn't the Spirit tell me?" But then I remembered my advice that had come from my own mouth earlier that week. Just because you aren't receiving revelation, doesn't mean your companion is not. So God made sure I solidified this portion of my testimony. And now Sister Gibbens and I are learning to listen to each others' promptings more! A companionship is made of co-revelation, and it takes two to receive all the revelation needed for the day! Its been a great skill we are gaining together.
