Week 60: Cardboard boxes and Orange Peel Argument
Also man I love my comps!
Odds and Ends
●Mattie is so sweet. She asked me for my pen. She told me that her pen I gave her last time and her Book of Mormon got stolen by her church members. Anywho, poor lady has short term memory loss. She kept asking us if we're sisters because we look similarš¤£ and we told her sisters in Christ. We sadly can't teach her anymore cause she ain't all the way there.
●A guy started yelling at us mid prayer "are ya Mormons? Are ya Mormons?"
●Our friends Candece started breaking out into song mid contact... pretty awesome if you ask me.
●This woman in the area found our phone number and called asking for service. We filled a moving truck full of pretty much ONLY empty cardboard boxes. I didn't know that there could be such thing as a cardboard box hoarder. And we dragged the elders into it because we were worried there might be something heavy that we couldn't carry... we could've handled this one on our own. But we were happy to do the service and help ease her stress.
●Reggie told us to call after 5, before 7, no later than 8. We love him!
●We played follow the prophet Simon says with Fabio and Jenny and Emily. I'm pretty good at this game š I won
●I woke up at 4 am in Newberry to workout with Bri Eargle, who I knew in the time I served in that area. Holy we WORKED! She has a whole garage gym. I used a bar and everything... holy I'm used to my dancer cardio and that's it! Needless to say my arms were sore for DAYS. AND by the time we got home from working out, it was 6:20 and the whole entire mission wasn't even up yet! And these sisters do this ALMOST DAILY! Such dedication.
●So. My compaƱeros were like "lets make Navajo tacos! We need scones." And I'm like WHAT? So we have this conversation. They try relating scones to elephant ears and all sorts of other stuff and I'm still like WHAT IS A SCONE?! Turns out it's just Indian fry bread, and Navajo tacos is just another name for it! But we had those. They were yummy.
●I was driving and trying to peel my cutie at the same time. It wasn't working too well, so Sister Mickelson offered to peel it for me. I start focusing on the road. Then Sister Mickelson looks at me with an evil look on her face, rolls down the window... and before I know it, my orange peel. GONE. Tossed to the wind literally. Littering before my very eyes. The conversation went as follows:
Me:"No no no don't do that! I wouldn't have married you if I knew you did that!"
Sister Mickelson:"Well if you had dated me for a year you would!"
^^^because Sister Mickelson and I are training together we are "married." Just in case that confused anyone;)
●All of our mission birthdays were around the corner, Sister Bruce turned 1, I turned 14, and Sister Mickelson turned 18 months. Holy! So we made burgers, wore tiny sombreros and Sister Mickelson painted our nails. She free handed French tips for me and they look SO GOOD! I can't stop looking at my hands!
●On pday we were sitting outside to do nails and there were like 4 or 5 fleets of hens and their chickadees, and we tried counting. There were 35-40 wild chickens and chicks just ROAMING AROUND! I was in heaven!
●I got my first bug bite of the season...
●We've been playing Bananagrams almost religiously nightly in our companionship. It's so fun! So we brought it to DCM so we could play after lunch. And then we accidentally left a piece, and the elders are holding it hostage until next week! Our poor letter I...
●Sister Mickelson said I have the personality of a pinwheel haha!
●Sister Mickelson caught a frog
Miracles
★The Graniteville sisters have a friend named Cliff, and he was on date to be baptized. He had some doubts, and so the Sister Harris and Sister Robinson wanted to take him to the temple grounds to pray about being baptized. But they needed another sister in the car! (2 sister to one guy is not allowed to be in the same car. But 3 are!) And then he recommitted to be baptized! We are so excited for the sisters and especially Cliff!
★We met Sparkey Toothman! He said he has seen all of our notes that we left on the door and they have a bunch of chickens too! They have a MASSIVE chicken! Holy. There are 8 kids in that family and a lot of them have gone without the gospel! We are excited to meet all of them!
★We met the Connor family! Sherry and Ferman! They have cutest little porch ever. Sherry said we could come back and teach Ferman the lessons "so Sister Bruce can practice" ;) we are going to go pick up pinecones next week. Haha!
★NEWBERRY BOUND AGAIN! I went on exchanges with my mission grandchild Sister Hillyer! AH I love her so much. She's a HARD worker! And she's so willing to serve, literally, I was driving, and I was like "where's my backer?" And then I look and she's helping an old lady fold up her walker into her car. Seriously she's an angel! And she has an awesome way to just love and fellowship part member families too. I learned so much from her. Newberry is in good hands!
★MET Donna! So we knocked. She's like hold on I got to put the dogs away. And then we went in and helped her put sheets on the couch. She says "Hold on I got to go get my scriptures." She walks in with her Bible, and on top of it, was a BOOK OF MORMON. She met with the missionaries 20 years ago and still has her copy! She is excited to read, and excited to come to church! We were able to arrange a ride, and Donna came to church for the first time! Even though she hobbled on her crutch around church, she did it! She's also the first person to come to the Lake Murray ward instead of Gilbert since I've been here!!
★James and Kristen- We were trying to lesson plan for them. We were praying, praying... nada. Nothin. So we decided to ask them if they had any questions that they wanted to discuss and they did! They have been studying the scriptures and we were able to read some of them and discuss. Even when it was scary, we trusted the Spirit and it all worked out!
★We use Galatians 5:22-23 to help our friends learn some examples of what the Spirit feels like. We call it " the fruits of the spirit." We started sharing the scripture with Dennis, and by memory, he starts reciting it. We were shocked, and he says "I"ll be right back!" Dennis came back with a picture frame, with a painting of fruits in a bowl, with the scripture written below it. It was so cool! He said it was his mama's. Now he won't ever forget the fruits of the Spirit!
★Brandon got sick and we've been unable to meet in person. But he's still been 9 days strong for keeping the Word of Wisdom! Woohoo!
★Sister Monson's birthday was this week! I'm glad we have the miracle of her light in our mission. We are still missing her while she's away in Utah. Our zone made her a happy birthday video!
★We saw Brother Tolman in the church parking lot so we went to talk with him. He said Nichole was in meeting with the bishop. Direct quote. "She might as well be a member." Hehehe! It won't be much longer. The Spirit it working on her!
Spiritual Thought
This week our zone read the talk "After the 4th Day" from the most recent conference. It references how Lazarus was raised on the fourth day, after Mary and Martha thought the Saviors stretch of miracles only reached 3 days. We talked about after the 4th day in missionary work. I know God is in control, I know that after all, He can do the impossible, the unthinkable, the unmatchable. But we have to maintain faith enough to make it to the 4th day to see that miracle. There's a quote that I sadly can't find, but it goes something like this: God loves you far too much to give you anything else other than the right answer, at anything other than exactly the right time. That's it! He loves you and will care for you perfectly. So I know I'm capable of waiting for that 4th day at any point of my life. In missionary work, in personal goals, in education, in anything! And you can do the same! Be patient for that 4th day miracle!
