Week 48: Flat tire and QUARANTINE😷
This week was definitely not the one we had planned! But I'll jump right in!
Events from Jan 16th-23rd. I know, late again...
So just like it says in the title...I got Covid! Big sad. First I thought I was losing my voice Monday night, and then the next morning I just had a very sore throat and runny nose. Then Wednesday it was AWFUL. Full blown chills and heat flashes, forehead burning, massive headache, stuffy nose, sore throat. We had to go get our tire fixed... and after we got a call. The elders called us and Elder Ramos said he had covid. So I was pretty sure I had covid. And sure enough, took a covid test. And positive! The first time I've ever tested positive. So we were quarantined from Monday->Saturday. Yikes. It was hard, but we did it! I had a 101.2 fever, but after that it cooled down and then it was straight quarantine! Of course this was the one week we had full of member meals...hehehe. Had to cancel them, but we are glad we kept our friends and members healthy! It was a sacrifice we were willing to take! God knew! This was always apart of his plan!
Odds and Ends
★There are cute broccoli fields out here!
★We found out our couch is a pullout bed! Best find EVER!
★During dinner hour we played codenames over the phone with the other quarantined elders to keep us sane.
★We definitely had Chickfila 3x this week. I definitely walked up to the window to get sauce when they forgot to give us the nectar.
★An elder said he would play the piano for a special musical number for me and Sister Harris, and so we were able to have a fun adventure other than being stuck inside all day and go drop off the music at their place on the doorstep. We left them freeze-dried saltwater taffy a member gave us and some lifesavers as a thank you. Well the elders thought the taffy things were bath bombs. And they told us they had very sticky hands.
Miracles
★We were running behind to our dinner appointment and we heard a sound that you don't want to hear. We pull up to a gas station, and yup FLAT TIRE! thankfully we were only 5 minutes away from the member meal. And so many people stopped and offered help! It was so sweet. I know God was so aware of us!
★I was able to get a good handle of how to minister to the sisters while we were quarantined! I think that was one of the main blessings that came out of being inside. It was super fun, we even wrote the sisters letters and mailed them to their house. I'm starting to understand my responsibilities as an STL a little more! God is helping me!
★After all that hullabaloo of covid, we were able to go to church. Desi came for the first time! And he came FORTY FIVE MINUTES EARLY. We were actually in a meeting, and so we didn't get to help him come in. And then we walk in to the chapel and see 2 members already saying hi to him. It brought tears to my eyes!
★Then... we were able to help Desi set a date for baptism! Sister Hoyal did the invite and I am SO proud of her! Desi is so ready for the change the gospel will bring him!
★It was also a miracle that I was even able to get well in time to speak on Sunday! Ahh! God is TOO GOOD!
★My mother is a miracle! She set up a Walmart pickup so I could get some vitamins and toilet paper. Love her to pieces! She's taking care of me even while I'm on the opposite coast!
Spiritual Thought
Here's a snippet from my talk I gave about unselfish service!
There are people we can help here. There are people in your workplaces. There are people in your neighborhoods. There are people in your families. There are people on the other side of the veil accessible through temples. There are CHILDREN OF GOD. Waiting for your help. It all starts with loving unselfish service. And if you struggle with serving unselfishly, do it because you love God. Go to the temple, pull some weeds, bake a cake, take their empty plate at dinner, wave at them, share a principle of the gospel with them, cry with then, comfort them, call them, sing a song, or just BE with them. Just being yourself is plenty service enough if you do it unselfishly. The blessings you will receive for the attitude of selfless service you give will be without number. You will feel the joy of Christ as you bring others that same joy. You will strengthen your testimony. Sacrifice and love for others.
